SMCSU Committees

SMCSU is hiring for our Committees!

  • The term for the Committees will be until April 30, 2022.
  • Students are not required to be in Toronto at this time. You may work for your committee remotely from home. We do suggest that you have strong internet connection.
  • Please note: SMCSU will adhere to government guidelines regarding COVID-19 to ensure the safety and health of our students. All non-essential events must be held online. Students may be asked to attend and facilitate online events.

Committee Descriptions:

  1. The Academic Affairs Committee will have the opportunity to collaborate with a team to strategize methods for effective and community-engaging on-campus or virtual academic events– including the club fair and academic workshops. The main responsibilities of this role includes working alongside the VP of Academics to promote, plan, and oversee academic events and SMC recognized clubs to ensure they run smoothly.
  2. The Athletics Committee will  help the VP of Athletics in coordinating intramural sign up, creating and executing online or in-person initiatives (ie. Nike run challenges), promoting physical and mental health through exercise, diet, and self-care. I am looking for students who are organized, creative and are willing to offer their time to helping SMC students.
  3. The Communications Committee will be dedicated to aiding the VP of Communications by helping to create, suggesting, and brainstorming ways to engage our diverse community through our social media platforms. These will include but are not limited to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and WeChat.
  4. The Community Life Committee will have the chance to help enhance student life for the SMC community! We will be researching practical events to host during the upcoming semester, as well as looking into what events the SMC community is looking forward to. We will keep up to date with provincial and university guidelines for the capacity of events we hold. Also, we will research small businesses and shops to bring local flavors to SMC and showcase what the neighborhood and city of Toronto has to offer our community! Overall, the main goal of this committee is to plan, research, and account for possible in-person and online events to enhance community life and meet the needs of SMC students.
  5. The International Student Outreach Committee will help improve the experience of incoming international students. You will help the VP of ICO create a handbook for incoming students to help them adjust to the university and life in Canada, and assist in creating an outline for the fall semester events. A prospective committee member should be willing to offer their time, creativity, and energy throughout the summer!
  6. The Mental Health and Accessibility Committee will  work alongside the VP of Mental Health and Accessibility in promoting and developing mental health and accessibility initiatives and planning events such as socials, workshops and more. This will also include collaborating with other students groups and leaders and working together to increase the visibility of mental health and accessibility resources.
  7. The RCA Committee will help the VP RCA plan and organize events that promote SMC values with a focus on mental health initiatives and helping out within the local community. Throughout the summer, committee members will help to brainstorm event ideas for both in-person and online platforms in preparation for the school year.
