SMCSU Committee Applications have closed for the 2024-2025 year.
Committee Descriptions:
- The Arts Committee will focus on promoting different forms of art in the SMC community. The Committee will also aid the VP of Arts in planning and hosting the Kelly's Korners.
- The Academics Committee will have the opportunity to collaborate with a team to strategize methods for effective and community-engaging on-campus or virtual academic events– including academic workshops.
- The Communications Committee will be dedicated to aiding the VP of Communications by helping to create, suggesting, and brainstorming ways to engage our diverse community through our social media platforms. These will include but are not limited to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and WeChat.
- The Community Life Committee will have the chance to help enhance student life for the SMC community! We will be researching practical events to host during the upcoming semester, as well as looking into what events the SMC community is looking forward to.
- The Equity Committee will work alongside VP of Equity to run events and research about new initiatives as well as hearing student voices about equity concerns on campus.
- The Finance Committee will brainstorm ways to help students learn about finances.
- The International Community Outreach Committee will help improve the experience of incoming international students. You will help the VP of ICO create a handbook for incoming students to help them adjust to the university and life in Canada, and assist in creating an outline for events.
- The Mental Health Committee will work alongside the VP of Mental Health to promote and develop mental health initiatives and planning events such as socials, workshops and more. This will also include collaborating with other students groups and leaders and working together to increase the visibility of mental health and accessibility resources.
- The Spiritual Life Committee will help the VP of Spiritual life to plan and organize events that celebrate different faith backgrounds, as well as brainstorming ways that allows students to practice their faith during their time at SMC and UofT.
- The Student Organizations Committee will aid the VP of Student Organizations in holding the clubs fair, and ensuring smooth running of SMCSU recognized clubs. The Committee will also work to promote SMCSU recognized clubs and leadership development opportunities.
- The Formal committee will aid the VP of Community life in organizing SMCSU's annual formal event.
A big portion of each committee member's responsibility is also to connect with SMC students to promote SMCSU initiatives and events, and most importantly, hear about students' experiences. Committee members are encouraged to attend SMCSU's open meetings, and bring the student voices to the council.
